The scary thing about schizophrenia is that sufferers may be so confused by the symptoms that they are unable to tell what is real and what is fantasy. For instance, when serial killer David Berkowitz saw black dogs barking out orders to kill, he believed they were actually there.
Many schizophrenics keep their voices and thoughts to themselves, for fear of being labeled “crazy.” Another schizophrenic, Janice Jordan, mentioned being unable to tell her counselors about a delusional figure known as “The Controller” who barked orders at her during psychotic episodes.

Schizophrenia affects around 1% of the population of this planet. It is a chronic, severe, and disabling mental disorder. It has also been recognized for centuries, maybe not with the same nomenclature, but most likely with the same symptoms. However, the complex mechanisms which cause this condition remain a mystery of their own…but for how long?

Schizophrenia is a disease of the brain but it causes many mental problems. The root cause of this disease is not known but bad genes seem to be a hot favorite. It affects both the sexes. Though there are some cases of children being affected, it is normally a disease manifesting during the teenage years.
The symptoms of schizophrenia vary with the type of schizophrenia that a person suffers from. The most common form is paranoid schizophrenia. The patient imagines himself a victim of all sorts of conspiracies. Everyone is out to get him. To bolster this view, hallucinations and delusions are quite common. He hears voices inside him. With this persecution complex it becomes extremely difficult to maintain interpersonal relationships with family and friends.
